Here are some FAQs that often come up:
Q: What happens after I submit my online application through CORE’s web portal?
A: Your application creates a profile in our CRM which appears as a contact in our system. If you meet the qualifications for a specific position you are applying for, the recruiter will contact you via email to solicit times you are available to interview over the phone. If you are not applying for a particular opportunity, you will receive an email confirmation, but you will not be interviewed until an opportunity fitting your location and skills becomes available.
Q: What are the advantages of applying online through CORE’s website?
A: The recruiter will be able to see you when searching for qualified instructors in particular geographical locations. For example, if you are in the Chicago area, and an instructor is needed in the language or one of the languages you can teach, she or he will see your name as an available instructor and will contact you and others who have applied online before any job postings would be created. Not only do you get first consideration for opportunities as they become available, but you are also contacted based on your preferences and location, i.e. you will not be bothered with opportunities that you have already indicated are too far from your location.
Q: Do I need to follow up after submitting an application?
A: No, that is not necessary. If you are not contacted for an interview within two weeks of applying for an open position (i.e. advertised on a jobs or networking site), you will receive an email rejection that may contain additional comments or information (e.g. your resume did not demonstrate your fit for the position, located too far from client, etc.).
Q: If I receive a rejection email, does that mean I cannot apply for other positions?
A: No, you are not automatically disqualified from future opportunities with CORE, and you are not required to submit further applications for other positions. Once you are in the system and are deemed a qualified (i.e. approved) candidate, you will remain in the system, where the recruiter can find you to let you know about other opportunities in your area that fit you as they become available.
Q: What kind of documentation is required to be hired by CORE Languages?
A: You are required to fill out a contract (as an independent contractor), a W-9 form, and a direct deposit form. You must be eligible to work in the U.S. (e.g. citizen, naturalized citizen, green card holder, have a work permit/visa) in order to become an instructor with CORE.
Q: When applying online through CORE’s website, a number of languages are listed, but not the one(s) I can teach. How do I let CORE know about those languages?
A: Write in your languages in the “Other” blank below the languages list or in the “Notes” section. They will be added to your profile in our system.
Q: When checking the boxes for languages I can teach, there is no space to indicate my level of proficiency. What level (e.g. intermediate, advanced, near-native or native speaker) do I have to be at in order to teach for CORE, and where can I add this information?
A: Instructors must have a good command (i.e. native- or near-native fluency) of the language they want to teach, and this can be listed under the “Notes” section on the application. Instructors with a lot of experience teaching languages might be qualified to teach languages in which they are at least proficient (advanced level).
Q: Can I teach for CORE and another organization at the same time?
A: Absolutely! We do not require that you work exclusively for us, and we understand that you may already have clients from another position when you join our team.
Q: Do you reimburse for travel time/expenses?
A: No, we do not reimburse for travel, but mileage can be written off on your taxes as an independent contractor, per the IRS (check www.irs.gov for further information on this topic). Additionally, we have the flexibility to adjust compensation rates for contract assignments on a case-by-case basis.
Q: How often do I get paid?
A: CORE pays on a monthly basis through direct deposit.
Q: Once I am offered a position and fill out my paperwork, what happens next?
A: After you have accepted the Terms and Conditions Agreement and offer of contract assignment, you will get an email invitation to complete your paperwork through our payroll vendor. Then, the accounts manager will send an email to you and the client(s) containing your and their contact information (name, phone number, email address) and indicating that you, the instructor, will contact them directly to set up the first meeting.
Q: I applied on the CORE Languages website, but have not gotten a response to my application. How do I check on my application?
A: If you were not applying for a specific position, it may be that there are no current opportunities in your language(s) in your local area. When positions become available, you will be contacted and interviewed if your qualifications and skills match those needed.
