Q: Why is it better to talk to a person, instead of just using a language-learning program like Rosetta Stone or Duolingo?
A: We are advocates of automated language-learning programs, because they provide a fantastic opportunity to practice your vocabulary and reinforce what you’ve already learned. However, a human will be able to correct any mistakes you make on the fly and explain why they’re mistakes. They will also be able to help you with tips on how to improve, specific to your own style of learning, and teach you everything right, the first time. These are skills that computers have yet to acquire!
Q: I’m going to a Spanish-speaking country for vacation. Do I really need to learn the language, or does everyone speak English anyway?
A: If you don’t speak any Spanish, you might be surprised at how difficult it is to get around in a place like Mexico City or Madrid. Having a basic grasp of the language, in addition to having practiced with a native speaker, will give you the extra confidence boost you need that will make all the difference.
Q: Do I have to buy materials?
A: There is a required, non-refundable material purchase of $50. This purchase covers the cost of your book, shipping and handling, and any other online CORE resources, so that you can work through it together with your live teacher as well as doing homework for your next session. The materials usually take about 100 hours of instruction to complete, and when you’re ready for a new book, we will arrange for an additional materials purchase.
Q: What if I have to cancel a session and make it up later?
A: Your teacher is not required to make room for your classes outside of your scheduled appointments, but will do their best to make adjustments.
Q: What if I don’t like my teacher?
A: Here at CORE Languages, we work hard to make sure we hire the best teachers who really know their stuff. Therefore, we feel confident that you will be happy with your classes. However, if you would like to request a different teacher at any time for whatever reason, we will be able to accommodate your request.
Q: Why can’t I purchase one lesson at a time?
A: Learning a language is a long-term process that takes time. We are committed to helping you undertake this big commitment! Just like with any life endeavor, it’s hard to see progress from just one day of classes. You wouldn’t eat a salad and expect to lose ten pounds! To see real improvement, we recommend giving it at least 4 hours of language training, which is why we ask you to commit to at least one month. If you decide it’s not for you, there’s no long-term commitment!
Q: What’s your refund policy?
We do not offer refunds, as stipulated upon purchase. We do, however, offer a cancellation policy: you can cancel your recurring payments anytime. To do so, please email: email@example.com five days prior to the next billing cycle.
Q: Will there be anyone else in my class?
A: Yes, all classes are one-on-one. You will be able to ask as many questions as you want, and your teacher will be able to give you individualized attention throughout the whole session.
Q: Do my sessions have to last an hour?
A: You can make your sessions as long or short as you want – as long as they fit into your and your instructor’s schedules, in 15-minute increments. We recommend an hour per session, but if you want a half hour or two hours, that’s up to you.
Q: How quickly will I be able to schedule my sessions?
A: We have over 80 professional, active, language teachers all over the US, who are ready to start working with you. As soon as our support staff understands your needs, we will be able to match you to a great teacher who can help you reach your goals on your time.
