Sollen conjugation German verb
Sollen expresses what someone else expects of you: an instruction, a plan or a rule ("to be supposed to"). Unlike most modals, it keeps its vowel in all present forms, but the ich and er forms still have no ending: ich soll, er soll.

- modal verb
- Partizip II: gesollt

Sollen in the Präsens (present): soll, sollst, soll, sollen, sollt, sollen.

How sollen conjugates
Present: ich soll, du sollst, er soll, wir sollen, ihr sollt, sie sollen. The Präteritum is sollte, and the Konjunktiv II looks exactly the same (sollte), meaning "should" as advice: Du solltest mehr schlafen. Context tells you which one is meant. With another verb, the Perfekt uses a double infinitive: Ich habe anrufen sollen. Sollen is also used to pass on what you have heard: Das Restaurant soll sehr gut sein ("is said to be"). It has no imperative.
