How avoir conjugates
Avoir is irregular and worth learning first because every passé composé depends on it. Present: j'ai, tu as, il a, nous avons, vous avez, ils ont. The future and conditional use the stem aur- (j'aurai, j'aurais), and the subjunctive is aie, aies, ait, ayons, ayez, aient, which also gives the imperative aie, ayons, ayez. The imparfait is regular (j'avais). The past participle is eu, pronounced like the u in tu, and avoir takes avoir in its own compound tenses: j'ai eu.

- Forgetting that "there is" is il y a, not il est.
