Construire conjugation French verb
Construire means to build: a house, a bridge, a team, a career or an argument. It is common both on job sites and in business language (construire une relation de confiance). Compound tenses use avoir: j'ai construit.

How construire conjugates
Construire conjugates like conduire. The singular present is je construis, tu construis, il construit. The plural adds -s- before the ending: nous construisons, vous construisez, ils construisent. That construis- stem also gives the imparfait (je construisais), the subjunctive (que je construise) and the gerund (construisant). The future is regular: je construirai. The past participle is construit, with a silent t that you hear in the feminine construite.

Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out the s in the plural: it is nous construisons and ils construisent, not nous construons.
- Writing the participle without a t: it is j'ai construit, not j'ai construi.
- Saying construire when you mean having it built: if you hired a builder, say j'ai fait construire ma maison.
