Craindre means to fear or to be afraid of, and it is more formal than avoir peur de. How craindre conjugates

Craindre is the model for verbs in -aindre. The singular present ends in -ains, -ains, -aint: je crains, il craint. Wherever the ending starts with a vowel, the stem becomes craign-: nous craignons, ils craignent, je craignais, que je craigne, craignant. Note nous craignions and vous craigniez in the imparfait and subjunctive, with -gni- followed by i. The future keeps the d: je craindrai. The past participle is craint. Plaindre and contraindre follow the same pattern.
