Manger conjugation French verb
Manger means to eat, and it shows up in everyday expressions like manger sur le pouce (to grab a quick bite) and salle à manger (dining room). It is also the model for every -ger verb in French. Compound tenses use avoir: j'ai mangé.

How manger conjugates
Manger is a regular -er verb with one spelling rule: an e is added after the g before a or o so the g stays soft. That gives nous mangeons, most of the imparfait (je mangeais, il mangeait, ils mangeaient), the passé simple il mangea and the gerund mangeant. Before e or i nothing changes: nous mangions, vous mangiez, je mangerai. Voyager, changer, partager and nager follow the same rule.

Mistakes to avoid
- Dropping the e: write nous mangeons and je mangeais, not nous mangons or je mangais.
- Adding the e where it isn't needed: nous mangions and vous mangiez take no extra e, because i follows the g.
