How tenir conjugates
Tenir conjugates exactly like venir. The singular is je tiens, tu tiens, il tient, nous tenons and vous tenez keep the infinitive stem, and ils tiennent has a double n. The future and conditional add a d (je tiendrai, je tiendrais), the subjunctive is que je tienne, and the passé simple is je tins, nous tînmes. The one big difference from venir is the auxiliary: tenir uses avoir. Obtenir, maintenir, retenir and appartenir all follow this model.
