How crear conjugates

Crear is a regular -ar verb, but its stem ends in a vowel, so many forms put two vowels side by side: creo, crea, creé, creó, creado. The yo preterite creé has a double e with an accent on the second. Be careful: creo and creemos also belong to creer (to believe), so context tells you which verb you are reading.

Crear in example sentences

Creo una carpeta nueva para cada cliente.

I create a new folder for each client.

  • Preterite

La empresa creó cincuenta empleos nuevos en la región.

The company created fifty new jobs in the region.

  • Preterite

Creé una cuenta, pero no me llegó el correo de confirmación.

I created an account, but the confirmation email never came.

  • Imperfect

De niño creaba historias con mis juguetes.

As a kid I made up stories with my toys.

  • Present perfect

Hemos creado una guía para los nuevos empleados.

We've put together a guide for new employees.

  • Future

Mistakes to avoid

  • Mixing up crear and creer: creo can mean 'I create' or 'I believe', but the preterite separates them: creé (I created) vs. creí (I believed).
  • Misspelling the yo preterite: it is creé, with two e's and an accent, not cree or creí.
