Deber conjugation Spanish verb
Deber means "must" or "should" when followed by an infinitive, and "to owe" with a noun: "Te debo veinte dólares." With "de," it expresses probability: "Debe de estar en camino" (he must be on his way). It is a key verb for advice and obligations at work.

How deber conjugates
Deber is a completely regular -er verb: debo, debí, debía, deberé, debería, deba. The most useful form for learners is the conditional debería, which softens advice ("Deberías descansar"). The infinitive follows deber directly, without "que" or "a": "Debo irme." The noun "el deber" means "duty," and "los deberes" means homework in Spain.

Mistakes to avoid
- Adding "que": "Debo trabajar," not "Debo que trabajar." (Compare "tengo que trabajar.")
- Using "debo" when "debería" is more natural for advice: "Deberías dormir más" sounds softer than "Debes dormir más."
- Confusing "deber" (obligation) and "deber de" (probability): "Debe de tener 40 años" means "he must be about 40."
