How to use existir in the affirmative commands

Existir is almost never used in the imperative, because you cannot order something to exist. The forms (existe, exista, existan) are listed for completeness. In motivational or poetic language, you might see "Existe y vive" or similar, but in everyday Spanish, the subjunctive after "que" works better: "Que exista un plan B."

Examples

  • Existe, respira y disfruta el momento.

Exist, breathe and enjoy the moment.

  • Que exista siempre un plan B.

Let there always be a plan B.

  • Existan o no los fondos, el proyecto sigue.

Whether the funds exist or not, the project goes on.
