How to use existir in the imperfect
The imperfect of existir is regular: existía, existías, existía, existíamos, existían. It is the natural tense for describing how things were: "Antes no existían los teléfonos inteligentes." It is very common when comparing the past and present in presentations, stories and conversations about technology or work culture. Every form carries a written accent on the í.
