How to use querer in the imperfect
The imperfect of querer is regular: quería, querías, quería, queríamos, querían. It describes past wishes and plans. In the present, "quería" is also a polite softener: "Quería preguntarle algo" sounds gentler than "Quiero preguntarle algo." This makes it very common at the start of requests at work or in shops.

Quería saber si recibió mi correo.
I wanted to know if you got my email.
De niño quería ser astronauta.
As a kid I wanted to be an astronaut.
Queríamos ir a la playa, pero llovió.
We wanted to go to the beach, but it rained.
