How to use tocar in the future

The future is regular: tocaré, tocarás, tocará, tocaremos, tocarán. Use it for schedules and rotations (Te tocará el lunes) and for upcoming performances. Because the turn meaning is so frequent, le tocará is a common way to say whose job something will be next. It can also carry a sense of resignation, like having to do something unpleasant: Me tocará quedarme hasta tarde, I guess I'll have to stay late. In conversation, the present (me toca mañana) often replaces the future.

Examples

  • El próximo mes nos tocará cubrir las guardias del fin de semana.

Next month we'll have to cover the weekend shifts.

  • La orquesta tocará en el parque el domingo.

The orchestra will play in the park on Sunday.

  • ¿Tocarás algo en la boda de tu prima?

Will you play something at your cousin's wedding?
