How to use tocar in the conditional

The conditional is regular: tocaría, tocarías, tocaría, tocaríamos, tocarían. It works for hypothetical turns and for imagining what you would play or touch. Me tocaría often explains what would happen to you under a rule or a change of plans: Si cambian el turno, me tocaría trabajar los sábados. With the meaning to bring up, the conditional gives cautious advice: Yo no tocaría ese tema todavía, I wouldn't bring that up yet.

Examples

  • Si se va Ana, me tocaría a mí llevar sus cuentas.

If Ana leaves, I'd have to handle her accounts.

  • Yo no tocaría ese tema con el cliente todavía.

I wouldn't bring up that topic with the client yet.

  • Me encantaría saber qué canción tocarían.

I'd love to know what song they would play.
