Scegliere conjugation Italian verb
Scegliere means to choose or pick, and takes di before an infinitive (Ha scelto di restare). It uses avere in compound tenses with the participle scelto. Its present has a sound change that learners often miss: scelgo and scelgono, but scegli and sceglie.

How scegliere conjugates
The stem is scegli- in most forms, but before o and a the letters swap to scelg-: io scelgo, loro scelgono, and the subjunctive scelga, scelgano (also the Lei imperative scelga). Noi and voi keep scegli-: scegliamo, scegliete. The imperfect, future and conditional are regular (sceglievo, sceglierò, sceglierei). The participle is scelto, and the passato remoto has scelsi, scelse, scelsero with regular scegliesti, scegliemmo. Togliere and cogliere follow the same model.

Mistakes to avoid
- Regularizing the present: say io scelgo and loro scelgono, not "sceglio" or "scegliono".
- Using a regular participle: "ho sceglito" is wrong. Say "ho scelto".
