How to use gustar in the affirmative commands

Gustar has no real commands, because you cannot order someone to like something. The table forms exist but are almost never used. Instead, Spanish expresses wishes with que + subjunctive, and polite service language uses si gusta or como guste, which look like commands but are subjunctive. If you want someone to enjoy something, say ¡Que lo disfrutes! or ¡Que te guste! The examples show the phrases people actually use.

Examples

  • ¡Que te guste la película!

    Hope you enjoy the movie!

  • Si gusta, puede esperar en la sala.

If you like, you can wait in the lounge.

  • Siéntese donde guste.

    Sit wherever you like.
