How realizar conjugates

Realizar is a regular -ar verb with one spelling change: z becomes c before e. That affects the yo preterite (realicé), the whole present subjunctive (realice, realicemos, realicen) and the commands built on it. Everything else is regular: realizo, realizaba, realizaré, realizado. Alcanzar, utilizar and comenzar share the same z→c rule.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using realizar for 'realize': to notice or understand something is darse cuenta. Me di cuenta de que era tarde, not Realicé que era tarde.
  • Misspelling the yo preterite: it is realicé, not realizé.
  • Overusing it in casual speech: with friends, hacer usually sounds more natural. Hice la tarea, not Realicé la tarea.
