Haber conjugation Spanish verb

Haber does two jobs. As an auxiliary it forms all the perfect tenses (he terminado, había llegado), and in the third person it means "there is" or "there are" (hay, había, hubo). It almost never means "to have" in the sense of possession; that is tener.

  • to have (auxiliary); there is / there are
  • irregular
  • Participle: habido
  • Gerund: habiendo

Haber in the present: he, has, hay, hemos, habéis, han.

How haber conjugates

As an auxiliary, haber is conjugated in every person: he, has, ha, hemos, han in the present, and había, habré, habría in other tenses. The impersonal "there is" form uses only the third person singular, even with plural nouns: hay, hubo, había, habrá, habría, haya. The special present form hay replaces ha in this use. The preterite stem is hub- (hube, hubo), and the future drops the e: habré. Learn hay, había and the present he/has/ha first.
