How to use levantar in the affirmative commands

The commands are regular: levanta (tú), levante (usted), levantemos (nosotros), levanten (ustedes). With the reflexive, the pronoun attaches and adds an accent: levántate, levántese, levantémonos. Teachers and trainers say Levanten la mano constantly. Negative commands use the subjunctive: no levantes la voz. Levántate is what parents say every school morning, and levántese is what a nurse or physical therapist might say to a patient. In sports and motivation talk, levanta la cabeza means keep your chin up.

Examples

  • Levanta la cabeza y sigue adelante.

Keep your head up and keep going.

  • Levante el brazo despacio, por favor.

    Raise your arm slowly, please.

  • Levántate, que vas a llegar tarde.

Get up, you're going to be late.
