How to use ocurrir in the affirmative commands

Ocurrir is almost never used as a real command, because people do not usually order events to happen. The forms exist (ocurre, ocurra, ocurran), but in practice you will meet them in warnings built with ocurrirse, like ni se le ocurra (don't you dare) or que no se te ocurra. If you want to tell someone to come up with something, use pensar instead: piensa en una solución.

Examples

  • Que no se le ocurra tocar ese cable.

Don't you dare touch that cable.

  • Ni se les ocurra llegar tarde mañana.

Don't even think about being late tomorrow.

  • Ni se te ocurra abrir esa caja antes de tu cumpleaños.

Don't even think about opening that box before your birthday.
