How to use suponer in the affirmative commands

Commands are supón (tú, with an accent), suponga (usted), supongamos (nosotros) and supongan (ustedes). Supón que... and suponga que... set up hypothetical situations, much like 'say...' or 'imagine...' in English. Supongamos is the most common of all. Negative commands use the subjunctive: no supongas nada. Pronouns attach with an accent: supóngalo, supongámoslo. In Spain, the vosotros command is suponed. The tú form supón loses its accent when a pronoun is added: suponlo.

Examples

  • Supón que te ofrecen el doble; ¿te irías?

Say they offered you double; would you leave?

  • Suponga que pierde su tarjeta en el extranjero.

Suppose you lose your card abroad.

  • Supongan que el presupuesto se reduce a la mitad.

Suppose the budget gets cut in half.
