How to use suponer in the preterite
The preterite has the stem supus- and no written accents: supuse, supusiste, supuso, supusimos, supusieron. Use it for assumptions made at a specific moment (supuse que ya lo sabías) and for consequences in the past: la crisis supuso el cierre de varias tiendas. Supuse mal means 'I assumed wrong'. Forms like suponí do not exist. Supusimos keeps the stem too.
