How to use ir in the preterite

The preterite of ir (fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fueron) is identical to the preterite of ser. Context almost always makes it clear: "Fui a Madrid" (I went) versus "Fue difícil" (it was). Use it for completed trips and outings. Note that fui and fue have no accent. "¿Cómo te fue?" is the natural way to ask how something went.
