How to use suponer in the imperfect

The imperfect is regular: suponía, suponías, suponíamos, suponían. It is very common for assumptions you held in the past: suponía que era más caro. Ya lo suponía means 'I figured as much'. Se suponía que means 'it was supposed to', often for plans that did not work out: se suponía que llegaba ayer. Every form carries an accent on the í, and the tense has no irregularities.

Examples

  • Ya lo suponía.

    I figured as much.

  • Se suponía que el paquete llegaba ayer.

The package was supposed to arrive yesterday.

  • Suponíamos que el cliente iba a cancelar.

We assumed the client was going to cancel.
