Gustar conjugation Spanish verb

Gustar is how Spanish says to like, but the structure is backwards from English: the thing you like is the subject, and the person who likes it is an indirect object. Me gusta el café literally means coffee is pleasing to me, so the verb agrees with what is liked: me gusta, me gustan.

  • to like; to be pleasing to
  • regular
  • Participle: gustado
  • Gerund: gustando

Gustar in the present: gusto, gustas, gusta, gustamos, gustáis, gustan.

How gustar conjugates

Gustar is a regular -ar verb, but in practice you use only two forms in each tense: the third person singular (gusta, gustó, gustaba, gustará) with singular nouns and infinitives, and the third person plural (gustan, gustaron, gustaban) with plural nouns. The person goes in the pronoun: me, te, le, nos, les. Add a + person to clarify or emphasize: A Ana le gusta, A mí me gustan. Other persons (gusto, gustas) exist and mean I am liked, you are liked, as in Creo que le gustas.
