How to use abrir in the preterite
The preterite is regular: abrí, abriste, abrió, abrimos, abrieron. Use it for a specific opening: abrí la puerta, abrieron una tienda nueva en el centro. In business and the news, it is common for new branches, accounts and investigations: abrieron una investigación. Remember the written accents on abrí and abrió. For something that has been opened, the present perfect uses the irregular participle: han abierto.
