How to use abrir in the imperfect
The imperfect is regular: abría, abrías, abríamos, abrían. It describes past routines (la farmacia abría las veinticuatro horas) and background actions interrupted by something else: cuando abría la puerta, sonó el teléfono. It is natural for memories of how a place used to operate, such as a family business or a neighborhood store. Every form carries an accent on the í.
