Ayudar conjugation Spanish verb

How ayudar conjugates
Ayudar is a regular -ar verb with no stem or spelling changes: ayudo, ayudas, ayuda in the present, ayudé, ayudó in the preterite, ayudaba in the imperfect. The person you help is a direct object in most of Latin America (la ayudo, lo ayudé), while in Spain le ayudo is also common. The key structure to learn is ayudar a alguien a + infinitive.

Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out a before the infinitive: Me ayudó a limpiar, not *Me ayudó limpiar*.
- Using para instead of a: Te ayudo a buscarlo, not *Te ayudo para buscarlo*.
- Translating help yourself with ayudarse. For food, say Sírvete.
