How to use conseguir in the preterite

In the preterite, only the third person changes: consiguió, consiguieron. The others keep the e: conseguí, conseguiste, conseguimos. Use it for something obtained or achieved at a specific point: conseguí trabajo, consiguió el visto bueno del director. With an infinitive, it means 'managed to': conseguimos terminar a tiempo. The same pattern applies to seguir (siguió) and pedir (pidió), so if you know one of these verbs you know them all. A frequent mistake is conseguió; the correct form is consiguió.
