How to use creer in the imperfect

The imperfect of creer is regular, with an accent on the í: creía, creías, creía, creíamos, creían. Use it for past beliefs over time ("Creía en los fantasmas") and for an impression you had before learning the truth: "Creía que era más tarde." It is the background version of "creí que," and both are common.
