How to use lograr in the imperfect

The imperfect is regular: lograba, lograbas, lográbamos, lograban. It is common in the negative for ongoing struggles in the past: no lograba concentrarme. It also describes things someone used to achieve regularly, as in mi abuela siempre lograba reunirnos. The preterite, by contrast, tells whether an effort succeeded on a specific occasion. The nosotros form lográbamos carries an accent.

Examples

  • No lograba concentrarme con tanto ruido.

I couldn't concentrate with all that noise.

  • Antes lográbamos todas las metas sin problema.

We used to hit all our targets without any trouble.

  • Mi abuela siempre lograba que nos sentáramos todos juntos a comer.

My grandmother always managed to get us all to sit down and eat together.
