How to use morir in the preterite
In the preterite, the third person changes o to u: murió, murieron. The others keep the o: morí, moriste, morimos. Use it for deaths at a specific time (murió en 1990) and for ideas or projects that came to an end: el proyecto murió. Murió de... names the cause: murió de un infarto. The reflexive se murió is common in conversation and sounds more personal.
