How to use cambiar in the conditional

The conditional is regular: cambiaría, cambiarías, cambiaríamos, cambiarían. Use it for advice and feedback (yo cambiaría el título), hypotheticals and polite questions: ¿cambiarías algo? It is perfect for giving gentle feedback on someone's work, because it sounds like a suggestion rather than a correction. With si and the imperfect subjunctive, it builds unreal conditions: si pudiera, cambiaría de carrera. It also reports earlier promises: dijo que cambiaría.

Examples

  • Yo cambiaría el título; es demasiado largo.

I'd change the title; it's too long.

  • Si pudieras, ¿qué cambiarías de tu trabajo?
