How to use cerrar in the conditional

The conditional is regular: cerraría, cerrarías, cerraría, cerraríamos, cerrarían. Use it for advice (Yo no cerraría el trato todavía) and hypotheticals about closures: Sin ayudas, la empresa cerraría. It also reports announcements: Dijeron que cerrarían la calle por obras. With a pronoun, Yo que tú lo cerraría is a friendly way to recommend locking or closing something. Again there is no stem change, because the stress falls on the ending.

Examples

  • Sin ayudas públicas, el negocio cerraría en meses.

Without public assistance, the business would close within months.

  • Dijeron que cerrarían la calle por obras.

They said they would close the street for construction.

  • Yo cerraría la sesión antes de dejar el ordenador.

I'd log out before leaving the computer.
