How to use conocer in the imperfect
The imperfect of conocer is regular: conocía, conocías, conocía, conocíamos, conocían. It describes knowing someone or something over a period: "Ya lo conocía" (I already knew him). It contrasts with the preterite conocí, which marks the first meeting. "No conocía esa función" is a natural way to say you were unaware of a feature.

Ya conocía a la directora de otro trabajo.
I already knew the director from another job.
No conocía esa función de Excel.
I didn't know that Excel feature.
En ese entonces, casi nadie conocía la marca.
Back then, hardly anyone knew the brand.
