How to use dormir in the preterite

The preterite changes o to u only in the third person: durmió, durmieron. The others are regular: dormí, dormiste, dormimos. Use it for a specific night or nap: ¿Dormiste bien? With the reflexive, me dormí means I fell asleep or overslept, a classic excuse for being late. The o→u change also appears in the gerund durmiendo.
