How to use empezar in the preterite
In the preterite, empezar has no stem change, but the yo form changes z to c: empecé. The others are regular: empezaste, empezó, empezamos, empezaron. Use it for when something started: "La crisis empezó en marzo." "¿Cuándo empezaste?" asks when someone started a job or activity. The accent on empecé and empezó is essential.
