How entrar conjugates

Entrar is a fully regular -ar verb, so it follows the hablar model in every tense: entro, entras, entra in the present and entré, entraste, entró in the preterite. The one thing to watch is the written accent on entré and entró, which separates them from the present entro and the subjunctive entre. Compound tenses use haber: he entrado, había entrado.

me entra sueño / hambre

Mistakes to avoid

  • Dropping the preposition: English says 'enter the room', but Spanish needs a or en. Say Entró a la sala (Latin America) or Entró en la sala (Spain), not Entró la sala.
  • Leaving off the accent in the preterite: entro means 'I enter', while entró means 'he/she entered'.
