How to use entrar in the conditional

The conditional (entraría, entrarías, entraríamos, entrarían) is regular. Use it for hypothetical choices (yo no entraría a esa empresa), for polite requests, and for guesses about the past: entraría a las diez means 'he probably came in at ten'. It often pairs with a si clause in the imperfect subjunctive: si me llamaran, entraría. In questions, ¿entraría usted conmigo? sounds softer than the present.

Examples

  • Si me ofrecieran un buen puesto, entraría a ese hospital sin pensarlo.

If they offered me a good position, I'd join that hospital in a heartbeat.

  • ¿Entrarías conmigo a hablar con el gerente?

Would you go in with me to talk to the manager?

  • No sé cómo se metió el gato; entraría por la ventana del baño.

I don't know how the cat got in; it must have come in through the bathroom window.
