How to use entrar in the preterite

The preterite of entrar is regular, with written accents on entré and entró. Use it for a single moment of entering (entró a la sala y saludó) or for starting a job or school at a specific point: entré a la empresa en 2019 means 'I joined the company in 2019'. Without the accent, entro becomes a different word, the present 'I enter', so the accent really matters in writing.

Examples

I joined the company five years ago as an intern.
