How ganar conjugates

Ganar is a regular -ar verb: gano, gané, ganaba, ganaré, ganado. There are no stem or spelling changes. To say you beat someone, Spanish uses an indirect object: le gané a mi hermano. Watch the written accents on gané and ganó, and note that ganamos is the same in the present and the preterite.
