How to use ganar in the present

Ganar is regular in the present: gano, ganas, gana, ganamos, ganan. Use it for income (¿cuánto ganas?), for habitual wins (siempre gana el mismo equipo) and for advantages: con este método ganamos tiempo. ¿Cuánto ganas? is considered a personal question in many places, so ask it carefully. Me gana siempre means 'she always beats me', with the person you lose to as the subject.

Examples

  • ¿Cuánto gana un enfermero en Chile?

How much does a nurse earn in Chile?

  • Mi hermana siempre me gana en el Scrabble.

My sister always beats me at Scrabble.

  • Con el nuevo sistema ganamos casi una hora al día.

With the new system we save almost an hour a day.
