How to use ganar in the imperfect

The imperfect is regular: ganaba, ganabas, ganábamos, ganaban. It describes past income and repeated wins: en mi primer trabajo ganaba el salario mínimo, ese equipo siempre ganaba. It also describes a game in progress: ganábamos dos a uno cuando empezó a llover. Use the preterite for the final result and the imperfect for the situation along the way.
