How to use mostrar in the conditional

The conditional is regular: mostraría, mostrarías, mostraría, mostraríamos, mostrarían. ¿Me mostrarías...? is a polite request, softer than ¿Me muestras? It is also used for suggestions about presentations (Yo mostraría primero los números) and for hypotheses about what data would show. In reported speech, it repeats a promise: Dijo que nos mostraría el local, He said he would show us the place. The stem change does not apply here, because the stress falls on the ending.

Examples

  • Yo mostraría primero los números y luego las conclusiones.

I'd show the numbers first and then the conclusions.

  • ¿Nos mostraría el certificado de garantía?

Would you show us the warranty certificate?

  • Un estudio más amplio mostraría resultados distintos.

A broader study would show different results.
