How to use preguntar in the preterite
The preterite is regular with stress on the ending: pregunté, preguntaste, preguntó, preguntamos, preguntaron. Use it for a question asked at a specific moment, which is how you report most conversations: Me preguntó si... It is the natural tense for telling someone what a client, a boss or a doctor asked you.
