How to use valer in the preterite
The preterite is regular: valí, valiste, valió, valimos, valieron. Valió la pena is by far the most common use, to say something was worth it after the fact. It also reports prices at a specific time: El terreno nos valió una fortuna. In Mexico, valió can also appear in very informal slang meaning that something went wrong, so be careful with context.
