How jugar conjugates

Jugar changes u to ue when the stress falls on the stem: juego, juegas, juega, juegan in the present, and juegue, juegues, jueguen in the subjunctive. Nosotros and vosotros keep the u (jugamos, juguemos). It also has a spelling change: g becomes gu before e, so the yo preterite is jugué and the subjunctive is juegue. Jugar is usually followed by a + the game: jugar al fútbol, though in much of Latin America jugar fútbol without al is common.
