How to use alcanzar in the conditional

The conditional is regular: alcanzaría, alcanzarías, alcanzaría, alcanzaríamos, alcanzarían. It works for hypotheses about goals and resources: With two more people, we'd reach the deadline. It is also used to estimate whether something would be enough: No sé si el presupuesto alcanzaría. With alcanzar a + infinitive, it describes what you would manage to do under certain conditions, such as leaving early enough to catch the sunset or finishing a project with more help.

Examples

  • Con dos personas más alcanzaríamos el plazo sin problema.

With two more people we would meet the deadline without a problem.

  • No sé si el presupuesto alcanzaría para un viaje así.

I don't know if the budget would be enough for a trip like that.

  • Si saliéramos ya, alcanzaríamos a ver el atardecer.

If we left now, we'd get to see the sunset.
