How to use oír in the preterite
The preterite is oí, oíste, oyó, oímos, oyeron. The third-person forms use y, and the others carry an accent on the í. Use it for something heard at a specific moment (oí un ruido) and for news you heard: ¿oíste lo que pasó? Oí que... means 'I heard that...', a common way to pass along information without vouching for it.
